Types of containers:
- Open container: Encourage native microbes to enter; is easy to build
- Compost bin: Keeps pests out; retains heat and moisture for faster composting
- Compost tumbler: Can be built or bought; allows you to turn compost with ease
How to make compost:
- Alternate wet and dry layers
- Alternate brown and green materials
- Check temperature; working compost should be warm
- Water periodically to keep it moist
- Turn your compost once a week
- Finished compost should be dark with no unpleasant odors

- Vegetable and flower trimmings
- Sawdust
- Black and white newspaper
