Try one or more of the following decorating ideas to create a spooky face or add curb appeal:
- Jack-O-Lantern: Cut off the top part of the pumpkin and clean out the meaty core. Use a design stencil and map out where you want it on the pumpkin. Go around the perimeter and make holes to create a template for where you need to carve. Use a marker to connect the holes. Follow the lines using a carving knife at an angle and pop out the shapes from the inside.
- Outdoor Lantern: Cut off the top part of the pumpkin and clean out the meaty core. Use a multi-tool vertically up and down the pumpkin and carve out strips to create a lantern. Pop the shapes up from the inside and clean up loose threads as you go. Add a large candle.
- Spooky Spider: Spray paint a pumpkin black and let dry. Add a spooky face with white paint. Spray paint dowels black and cut to size to create the legs. Drill holes into the pumpkin and insert the dowels. Add second dowels with one end cut at a 45 degree angle and secure with super glue. Add white yarn to create a web.
- Street Address Pumpkin: Spray paint a pumpkin in a neutral color and add house numbers. Place it on your porch.
- Fa-Boo-Lous Etching: Use a dremel tool with an etching attachment to outline your design, then switch to the sanding attachment to remove the skin of the pumpkin.
- Mumpkin: Cut off the top part of the pumpkin and clean out the meaty core. Drill some drainage holes at the bottom. Fill with potting soil, then add mums, making sure to separate the roots a bit before planting.
- Multi-Pumpkin Masterpiece: Use multiple pumpkins and an etching tool to create a message.
- Stacked Scarecrow: Measure the height of three stacked pumpkins and cut a dowel to size. Carve out the stems and cut holes in the top and bottom. Thread the dowel through the pumpkins. Decorate with black furniture pads, black paint, arms, a colorful scarf and a hat.
