Laminate Flooring on Stairs Enhances the Beauty of Your Home

If you decide to install laminate flooring on the stairs, you will instantly get the benefit of an enhanced look to your entire home, especially if the adjacent floor is laminate as well. This is due to the same pattern and style being used for both the room and the stairs, which adds visual cohesion and integrity. Because laminate flooring is available in a variety of colors, hues and styles, you will have many options to choose from, and you will be able to select flooring that will complement your interior decorating.

Stairs are subjected to a lot of daily traffic, so you need to make sure that the laminate flooring you select is of sufficient quality to withstand constant wear and tear. Do your research and consult flooring professionals if you are not familiar with the different brands of laminated flooring. If you have friends with laminate floors in their homes, ask them which brands get scratched easily and require replacement. You’ll need to bypass cheaper flooring and invest in good laminate that will not require replacement after just a short period of time.

Installing laminate flooring on the stairs is not much different than installing it anywhere else. It can even be a weekend DIY project. The flooring needs to be glued to the subfloor tightly to ensure stability. An underlayer is not needed nor are expansion spaces since the entire flooring is glued down. Quarter round trim can be installed on the edge of the tread and over the uppermost part of the riser.

Find out which brand of adhesive is recommended by the manufacturer. Purchase the complete installation kit and follow the instructions precisely. Wipe away any excess glue with a clean, dry cloth to prevent staining. Although you can do this project yourself, you may prefer to hire a professional installer.

Finally, don’t forget safety. Some laminate flooring boards may be too slippery for elderly persons or children. Shop around for flooring with a slightly matte finish. Handrails can be installed as an added safety precaution.
