How to Arrange Container Gardens

A beautiful group of containers can brighten up spots where gardening can be difficult. Learn how to arrange container gardens in this Better Homes and Gardens video:

1. Mix-and-match grouping: Choose plants that all require the same amount of sunlight and have different textures and sizes. Keep planters neutral in color and style. Vary planter sizes and heights. Anchor grouping with large statement planters. Choose unique focal plants like a foxglove. Tie the group together by repeating color of filler plants.

2. Monochromatic grouping: Select a color family. Arrange plants at different heights. Repeat hues and shades. Color coordinate blooms and foliage. Use neutral planters; they won’t compete with the beauty of the plants. An odd number of planters looks best.

3. Tropical grouping: Use houseplants and tropical plants to create a lush green grouping. Start with the largest plants first. Add in medium-size plants. Fill in gaps with smaller plants. Use plants of different heights, as well as varying leaf textures and shapes. Vary planter colors but keep similar style. Choose lightweight planters you can move back inside.
