How to Update a Lampshade with Fabric

With a bit of fabric, scissors and decoupage, you can transform an outdated lampshade into a statement piece. Learn how to update a lampshade with fabric in this Better Homes and Gardens video:

1. Cut designs from fabric. Choose a fabric with a background in the same color as the shade.

2. Determine placement on drum shade. Designs can extend past the edges.

3. Apply flat decoupage to shade where fabric will be placed.

4. Apply decoupage to back of fabric.

5. Place fabric on shade.

6. Lightly coat front of fabric with decoupage.

7. Trim any excess fabric beyond the shade.

8. Repeat the process until shade is covered with desired design.

9. Let dry completely.

10. Use fabric glue to adhere bias tape to top and bottom of shade.

11. Fold over edges, slowly working around shade.

12. Let dry completely.

13. Add shade to a lamp or pendant light kit.
