How to Shop for a Coastal Design Style

The coastal style is light and airy and features a lot of natural colors and textures and nautical accents. Learn how to shop for a coastal design style in this video by The Kinwoven Home:

1. Natural color palette: Use cream, tan, blue and white colors to create a feeling of calm, serenity and relaxation. California coastal has a more muted, modern color palette, while Florida coastal incorporated pops of turquoise and beachy figurines like seashells, sailboats and starfish. Choose colors and accessories like pillows, vases and greenery that fit with the coastal style that appeals to you.

2. Driftwood: A beautiful way to integrate woodsy elements into your coastal home, driftwood can be found almost everywhere in a lot of different forms, including furniture, shelving, organization boxes, magazine holders, and towel racks.

3. Linen and jute textures: Look for baskets, bins, organizers, pillows and rugs in natural materials like jute, seagrass, wicker, burlap, linen and rope.

4. Bring on the stripes: Stripes are a great way to bring in a beachy nautical vibe. Simple neutral stripes fit the California coastal style, while bright colored stripes fit the Florida coastal style. You can go with either wide or narrow stripes in pillows, bedding, cloth trays or rugs.

5. Accessorize with sailboats, seashells and sea glass: Keep your coastal decor simple. Don’t go overboard with too many pieces or with items that look a bit silly.
