How to Create a Unique DIY Privacy Fence

Need a little privacy when you’re sitting in your backyard? You can make a privacy fence using antique windows, wooden posts and plants. Learn how to create a unique DIY privacy fence in this HGTV video:

1. Cut the top of 6×6 wooden posts for a 2×6 beam to sit on either side. The cuts should be 6 inches deep and 2 inches in.

2. Dig holes for the posts, then anchor the posts into the ground with cement. let dry fully.

3. Brace the posts to keep them plumb.

4. Place a 2×6 beam on the notches at the top of the posts. Hold in place with screws temporarily, then secure with two lag bolts. Repeat with another 2×6 beam on the opposite side of the posts.

5. Hang antique windows for extra privacy.

  • Remove glass from the frames.
  • Spray paint the frames and let dry.
  • Cover the back of the window with fabric, spray the fabric with a waterproof sealer, cut off any excess and attach to the window with a staple gun.
  • Attach two eye bolts to the top of each window frame.

6. Insert 4×4 blocks between the 2×6 beams to support the hanging windows. Secure with decking screws on each side. Add screw hooks in the middle of each block.

7. Place the window frames on each hook. Secure the bottom of the frames to the structure with double loop chain to prevent them from swaying.

8. Add plants and outdoor furniture.
