Three Incremental Design Options for Updating a Builder-Grade Bathroom

Is your dated bathroom in need of a makeover? Learn about three incremental design options for updating a builder-grade bathroom in this Lowe’s video:

In this video, three different rounds of updates were made to the same bathroom based on budget. You can customize the paint color, hardware, lighting, tile and other accessories based on your personal preferences and style.

Design #1: A little paint goes a long way. The pale yellow walls were painted a deep emerald color. Matte black hardware in the shower and tub provides an updated finish that contrasts well with the emerald walls. A molding treatment around the vanity and over the tub adds dimension and visual interest. Brushed brass accents round out the look. The standard rectangular mirror above the vanity was replaced with two framed mirrors, and the vanity lights were updated with brass globes. Matching faucets tie it all together. Approximate cost: $2500.

Design #2: In addition to the upgrades in Design #1, new lighting and flooring were layered in. A matte white and brass chandelier and wall shelves warm up the tub area and offer storage. Plants were added on shelves near the bathtub and in the shower. Dingy brown linoleum was replaced with marble-look porcelain tile for a clean and bright look. Approximate cost: $3500.

Design #3: In addition to the upgrades in Designs #1 and #2, the double vanity was replaced by one with a marble top. The water closet door was replaced with a green-painted door with brass hardware that matches the vanity, and up-lighting was added to the wall shelves. A built-in cabinet above the toilet adds needed storage, and a new table in the tub area provides easy access to towels. The builder-grade door was replaced with a new frosted shaker door. A new arabesque backsplash was installed in the tub and shower surround, and a frameless shower door completes the space. Approximate cost: $7500.
