Five Cool Custom Projects That Won’t Break the Bank

Every house has spaces that need a little bit of extra love. The good news is you don’t need to spend a lot of money to make them feel finished. Designer/contractor Jasmine Roth presents five cool custom projects that won’t break the bank in this HGTV video:

Stairs: Give a staircase a makeover by installing a handrail made from new vintage-style boards painted with a blend of dyes to create a distressed look, or customize the risers with stair riser decals.

Window sill: Utilize the natural light by setting up a potted herb garden. Paint different-sized terra cotta pots in different colors.

Re-purposed furniture: Give a space a custom look with upcycled furniture, such as the vintage game table with a new base featured in this video.

Turn storage into art: The open shelving unit featured in this video was built from pine boards that were lightly burned and gray washed to give them an old barn look.

Mural in lieu of wallpaper: Wallpaper can be expensive and require professional installation. A hand-painted mural is another way to get a similar effect. This video features two murals: a simple watercolor application in a cloud-like pattern, and a fun pattern created by applying painters tape onto the wall and painting in multiple colors.
