Five Modern and Unexpected Subway Tile Patterns
Subway tile is typically done in a simple brick pattern, but there are alternative layouts for this popular tile that can give your kitchen or bathroom a unique look. Learn about five modern and unexpected subway tile patterns in this Lowe’s video:
1. Horizontal Stacking: This option looks great on the backsplash and shower wall. If you really want to make white tile stand out, use a dark gray or black grout which will give the room or a more industrial or masculine feel.
2. Vertical Stacking: This is currently a popular style. By offsetting the tiles, you can create a unique look that can withstand the test of time.
3. Stair Stepper: This effect is created by turning a herringbone motif on its side. Carrying it seamlessly from the tub to the shower gives the room a cohesive look.
4. Mixed Effect: Subway tile now comes in an endless assortment of colors, finishes and materials. The backsplash featured in this video has a brick repeat in blue and vertically stacked white ceramic in between.
5. Basket Weave: This design is probably the most playful and updated option. Try using two different colors of subway. An aqua blue or blush pink tile would pack a colorful punch on a shower wall, making it a fun choice for a kids bathroom.
