Amazing Two-Story Shipping Container Home in a Wooded Setting

This amazing two-story shipping container home in a wooded setting is entirely a DIY build, including the plumbing, welding, and electrical work, and is completely on the grid. Even more amazing is how the homeowners pushed through the challenges of an unexpected health crisis to complete their dream home. Take the tour in this Living Big in a Tiny Home video:

The homeowners’ goal with this build was to become completely mortgage-free. With dedicated weekends of hard work, in spite of the stroke and the long recovery period, the home was finished in 10 months. It was built from a 40-ft container on the bottom and a 20-ft container on the top (406 total sq ft), with a deck on the top and an outdoor garden.

This home has a lounge with a sofa and fireplace, a galley kitchen with full-sized appliances, granite countertops and peninsula seating/dining, a large bathroom with a pedestal sink, shower, and floor-to-ceiling cabinetry and a large closet that also houses the pantry. A spiral staircase with storage underneath leads up to the bedroom which has large windows, a queen bed, nightstands, and a seating area with an overhead TV. The bedroom leads out to a deck which has great views of the surrounding woods and is perfect for morning coffee and evening dinners.
