Painting metal is a great way to give new life to vintage furniture and accessories. This video features a brass log holder.

Start by washing the item with a solution of dish soap and water and sand off any rust. You may also want to sand the surface lightly so the paint adheres better. Once the item is dry, take a can of premium paint primer in one spray paint, shake it well and apply a light coat, starting with the side you don’t see so you can test your technique. Move around the item and make sure coverage is even. Depending on the look you want, you may need to apply two to three coats.
