Open-Concept Kitchen and Dining Room Makeover

This non-functional kitchen had minimal counter space and an awkward layout. The basement stairs crossed the house at a 90-degree angle and came in halfway through the kitchen, effectively dividing the kitchen and living spaces into two small spaces and limiting design options. See the details of this open-concept kitchen and dining room makeover in this House & Home video:

Flipping the stairs 90 degrees so that they run lengthwise along the house allowed the open concept transformation. The detailing on the windows gives a feel that’s both French bistro and contemporary. Grey-beige quartz countertops with veining and slab wood cabinetry create a warm kitchen. The cozy dining space has a banquette with a round dining table and an oversized light fixture. A command center with a desk and open shelving separates the spaces. The adjacent powder room features a small corner sink and walls clad with grass cloth.
