How to Make a Drip Irrigation System for a Container Garden

Instead of toting a watering can back and forth, you can build a drip irrigation system that’s perfect for watering container plants on your deck or patio. Learn how to make a drip irrigation system for a container garden in this video by Better Homes and Gardens:



1. Attach a 2-way garden hose connector to an outside faucet.

2. Attach irrigation timer to faucet.

3. Secure pressure regulator to timer.

4. Attach tubing to hose fitting.

5. Lay out tubing and pots to determine design.

6. Mark tubing where drip lines will be.

7. Cut and cap end of tubing.

8. Anchor tubing.

9. Thread drip lines through containers.

10. Determine length of drip lines.

11. Punch hole in tubing.

12. Attach connector and micro tubing drip hose.

13. Fill containers with soil and plants.

14. Trim drip lines to fit.

15. Install drip heads and center in pot.

16. Secure tubing with stakes.

17. Bury tubing.

18. Turn water on at faucet.
