How to Get Your Bathroom Organized and Under Control
One of the hardest rooms in the house to organize is the bathroom. It’s often small, has limited storage options, and serves multiple functions, so it ends up housing a lot of stuff. Learn how to get your bathroom organized and under control in this video by The Design Network:
Pull-out bins are typically used in the kitchen, but they also work well in the vanity cabinet under the sink. They reduce rummaging and prevent things from spilling, toppling over, and getting lost.
Stackable organizers are great for separating and categorizing small items. They’re generally used for tools or construction materials, but they have a small lip which makes them easy to label, They also maximize vertical space, which is perfect for storage under the sink.
Labeling can be challenging in the bathroom. With all the moisture in the air, it can ruin the labels, so you’ll need to waterproof them. You can use tags and plastic vinyl from the dollar store. Write your label on the tag, then waterproof it by placing it top side down on a piece of plastic vinyl about twice the size of the label, fold the other half of the plastic over, remove any bubbles, then trim off the excess plastic.
The countertop can be both beautiful and functional. Vessels and planters add more personality and charm than traditional organizers. Store the overflow out of sight under the sink. Add natural touches such as an aloe plant.
Things we don’t want sprawled over the countertop often end up as clutter in the medicine cabinet. Start by taking everything out of the cabinet and wiping it down. Separate all of the items into different categories and use small squared baskets (typically used as desk organizers) to store them. Add magnetic strips to hang scissors, nail clippers or other metal items. Use metal spice jars to store things like hair ties and bobby pins. Also, be discerning and consider what you use most often and place those items at the bottom of the cabinet.
If you have open shelving, decorate with the essentials. Transfer things like bubble bath, shampoo and conditioner into pretty apothecary jars to make them stylish and functional. Splurge a little and get a decorative tissue box that can be used over and over again. Hang a towel bar vertically for storing rolled-up hand towels.
When organizing, it’s still important to consider the overall impression. In the bathroom featured in this video, instead of a traditional laundry hamper, a market style basket was used, giving a subtle nod to the homeowners’ love of travel. Displaying favorite travel souvenirs brings a little warmth. Lastly, add something a little out of the box, like a runner.
