Bedroom Closet Storage Systems Create the Extra Space You Need

You may have been content with your original storage space when you first bought your home, but after several years the closet in your master bedroom has become a mess. While your home may not have a lot of space for clothes, you can create and organize your bedroom close storage quickly and affordably. As with any organization project, the first thing you should do is to look through your closet and decide what to donate to charity, sell outright or toss in the trash. Once you’ve done that, you need to design your storage space. Debbie Travis provides tips in this video:

As a general rule of thumb, you will want to allocate 25% of your closet space for long clothes, 50% for low-hanging clothes and the rest for drawers and shelves. Hangers, hanging organizers, racks, shelving and storage units are just some of the bedroom closet storage systems that are available. Before purchasing anything, you should take your closet measurements first to make sure what you plan to buy will fit. Setting up closet organizers is a project that you can do fairly quickly.

The best approach is to look for bedroom closet storage systems that best meet your personal clothing need. A good way to maximize space is to add a closet doubler, which is a second hanging rod that is suspended from your current closet rod. Hanging organizers can be used for a variety of items such as blouses, hats, purses, sweaters and shirts. You can enlarge the capacity of your closet shelf by using shelf dividers or storage containers. Suit hangers and multilevel hangers also work well. Consider moving seasonal clothing such as winter coats to a freestanding or portable closet or wardrobe, under the bed storage or into a separate closet.

You can also create storage space on the bedroom closet door and floor. Add a hanging rack or door hooks for belts, coats, purses and ties, a portable hamper for your dirty laundry, or an over the door accessory bag for curlers, hair dryers or other personal grooming items. Shoes can be stored in a hanging or over the door shoe organizer or on shoe shelving units on the floor.
