Eclectic Functional Main Floor Makeover

Originally a disjointed space with non-functioning rooms, this main floor now has a reconfigured linear layout with a modern kitchen/dining area, family room and a fun piano room. See the details of this eclectic functional main floor makeover in this House & Home video:

The transformation began with a new linear floor plan. The upper cabinetry in the white kitchen has glass doors with white oak trim and black pulls. Porcelain countertops give the impression of marble, while the textured subway tile backsplash lends an unfinished look. In contrast, on the opposite wall is the dining area with its dramatic bold patterned wallpaper, old barrister bookcases, and candlestick chandelier.

The adjacent kid-friendly living room has moss green velvet sofas, a chalky white light fixture, laminate built-ins, a modern black fireplace and reed and leather rugs.

Fun elements such as a mid-century light fixture, Moroccan rug and hairy armchair add visual interest to the front piano room. The front entrance has black cobblestone tiles resembling pavers and old louvered Egyptian doors. Vinyl washable wallpaper and a wall-hung sink and toilet define the small but functional powder room.
